Dreamhost runs on Debian Linux and offers the typical setup of unlimited everything that most web hosting companies offer – unlimited disk space, bandwidth, MySQL databases and email accounts. They actually call their unlimited disk space plan “Unlimited + 50 GB” meaning they give you an extra 50 GB for backups which they claim no other “unlimited” hosting service offers.

Pronet is now offering three months of free web hosting with the coupon code 3free.

I’ve updated the web host rankings with this info to reflect the discount code and the new, altered “True $/mo.” Obviously this doesn’t apply to Pronet’s one month hosting plans. Their cheapest hosting plan (by month) is now $4.08 per month for 24 months. Cheapest 12 month plan is $6.21 per month or a total of $74.52 at signup.

I came across a coupon code for ImHosted today that gives you three free months of hosting. That means their “True $/mo.” is just 33 cents for their three month plan (and then $9.25/month after that). The coupon code is, appropriately, 3monthsfree. I updated the best rated web hosting list to reflect this.

Now, I don’t know how long this will last. I’ll keep an eye on it, but sign up ASAP!

Omnis Network is now offering 20 percent off its hosting packages with the coupon code 20percent.

Because of this, I’ve updated my list of web hosting companies to now include a column for “Coupon Codes”. Right now, Omnis is the only code listed, but I’ll add more as I find them.

The “True $/mo.” and “Total Contract” columns on the list indicate what you pay AFTER the discount is applied. Again, the goal of the spreadsheet is to reveal any hidden fees or costs. So be sure to enter the code 20percent when you go to check out.

I added six new web hosts to the best web host provider list today: Omnis, FastDomain, FatCow, 1&1, Netfirms and InMotion.

InMotion is now the cheapest web host on the list by month with a personal web hosting plan starting at just $3/month. However, you have to sign a 24 month contract to get it.

If you’re looking for a web host that offers Windows ASP functionality, check out Omnis, 1&1 or Netfirms. All three of those hosting services were added today and offer Active Server Pages.

I’ve been looking for a new web host lately and have been kinda disappointed as to what I’ve found out there. It’s tough to find one place that will rank web servers based on storage space, monthly cost, total cost, whether they offer ASP or not, Windows or Linux, etc…

So I started to create this web host evaluation database that you can sort by column. For example, if you just want to know the cheapest web host by monthly cost, you can sort the list by that. Or, if you want to know the smallest amount you can pay to get started (because a lot of sites make you pay 12 months or more up front) you can sort by that.

I also figured setup costs into this as well. I found web sites out there saying they’ll host your site for just $3.95 a month, but then you have to pay a $30 setup fee for three months. Well, that’s really $13.95 a month ($30 setup divided by three months plus $3.95 a month). So the list shows the TRUE cost per month based on the length of contract you want to sign up for.
